illustrator, photoshop, risograph printing
Stella is a project we did in cooperation with Salomea Kape. We were assigned to interpret her retelling of her wartime childhood in the city of Lodz in Poland. The story depicts the horrors of war and holocaust, but also the birth and decline of the friendship between Salomea and her classmate Stella. Most of all, it describes how hard times can change people.
I decided to take inspiration in two different Polish typefaces; the antique typeface Antykwa Półtawskiego, designed by Adam Póltawski and the avant-garde typographical experiment Komunikat by Wladyslaw Strzeminski. The body text is set in the former and the illustrations are formed by the latter. The booklet is printed with a risograph in three different colours – black, blue and fluorescent orange.
